President Tinubu Confirms Rescue of 38 Worshippers in Kwara, 51 Students in Niger State

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu this week announced the successful recovery of 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku town, Kwara State, and 51 of the students missing from a Catholic school in Papiri, Niger State.

In a statement published by the State House, Abuja, the president said:

Thanks to the efforts of our security forces over the last few days, all the 38 worshippers abducted in Eruku, Kwara State, have been rescued. I am equally happy that 51 out of the missing students of the Catholic School in Niger State, have been recovered.

The worshippers were taken during an attack on a church service in Eruku town. According to local officials, gunmen stormed the building and abducted the victims.

Meanwhile, in Niger State, armed men abducted more than 300 students and teachers from the boarding section of the school in Papiri, creating one of the largest school‐kidnapping incidents in recent times.

President Tinubu said he cancelled his planned trip to the G20 summit in South Africa so that he could personally oversee security efforts at home.

I am closely monitoring the security situation nationwide and receiving continuous updates from the frontline,

    he said in his statement.

Senior security commanders were reported to be in a meeting at the State House, Abuja, with the president, discussing strategies for the release of more victims and the crackdown on kidnappers.

While the recovery of 38 worshippers and 51 students is welcomed, the full number of victims in the Niger State school case remains uncertain, and several staff members are still missing. Analysts say such incidents show the growing challenge of mass abductions across Nigeria’s North and Central regions.

President Tinubu reiterated his commitment to the safety of all Nigerians.
