The son of Nigeria’s president, Seyi Tinubu, has spoken out after being dragged into a heated online controversy involving social media figures VeryDarkMan and King Mitchy.
In a public statement shared on Instagram on Saturday, Tinubu denied all allegations linking him to any improper relationship or secret arrangement. He insisted his only interaction with Mitchy was through charity work.
The controversy grew after accusations surfaced online suggesting Tinubu had undisclosed ties to Mitchy amid her public feud with VeryDarkMan.
Key Highlights
- Seyi Tinubu denied claims of any secret relationship or private meetings with King Mitchy.
- He said he met Mitchy only once publicly and supported her NGO financially.
- Tinubu accused VeryDarkMan of spreading false claims and vowed not to be bullied.
How the Controversy Started
The situation began after King Mitchy, a philanthropist and influencer, announced she renovated a damaged school in just six days. She presented the project as proof that real change can happen quickly with commitment.
Her announcement drew attention online. Some of her remarks were seen as indirect criticism of VeryDarkMan, a controversial activist known for exposing public figures and speaking on social issues.
In response, VeryDarkMan accused Mitchy of acting to improve the image of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He also claimed in a video that both Mitchy and Seyi Tinubu were threatening his life.
These claims quickly spread across social media, bringing Seyi Tinubu into the center of the dispute.
Seyi Tinubu Responds and Denies Allegations
In his statement, Tinubu firmly rejected all claims and explained the true nature of his interaction with Mitchy.
I met Mitchy once, in a public setting, alongside others,
he said.
On that occasion, I provided financial support toward her NGO activities, just as I have supported many young Nigerians and organisations working to empower our people.
He added that a follow-up meeting was planned to review the impact of the donation, but it never happened because he had been ill.
Tinubu made it clear that there was no private relationship.
There has never been a private encounter, no secret arrangement, and no impropriety of any kind,
he stated.
‘I Will Not Be Bullied,’ Tinubu Declares
Tinubu also accused VeryDarkMan of dragging his name into a conflict he was not involved in. He described the claims as false and damaging.
What is deeply concerning is that a feud I did not start has been used to insert my name into a narrative without basis in truth,
he said.
He stressed that supporting charity should not be turned into a scandal.
Supporting charitable causes is not a crime. Meeting someone publicly to support their NGO is not a scandal,
Tinubu added.
He also took a strong stance against intimidation.
I will not be bullied, and I will not dignify fiction with panic,
he said.
I firmly reject the accusations made against me.
Tinubu Reaffirms Commitment to Youth and Charity
Tinubu ended his statement by emphasizing his dedication to helping young Nigerians through his foundation.
He warned against turning charity into political controversy and called for responsible public conversations.
Nigeria needs builders, not bullies. We need responsible discourse, not sensationalism driven by speculation,
he said.
His response marks his first direct reaction to the growing online controversy.
This situation highlights the growing influence of social media in shaping public perception and sparking national debates. Allegations, even without proof, can quickly spread and affect reputations.
It also shows how philanthropy, politics, and online activism are becoming increasingly connected in Nigeria’s digital space.
