Speaking during a recent appearance on the Afropolitan Podcast, the actress revealed that in three decades together, she has never had to fight her husband over another woman, describing their relationship as one built on trust, respect, and selflessness.

The couple, widely admired in Nigeria’s entertainment industry, met when Omotola was just 16 years old. They later got married on March 23, 1996, the same day as Matthew Ekeinde’s birthday.

    Key Highlights

    • Omotola says she has never fought her husband over infidelity in 30 years of marriage.
    • The actress insists divorce is not an option for her, though she respects others who choose it.
    • She credits their marriage longevity to trust, zero ego, and deep friendship.

Inside Omotola and Matthew Ekeinde’s 30-Year Marriage

For decades, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Captain Matthew Ekeinde have remained one of the most respected celebrity couples in Nigeria.

During the podcast conversation, the actress spoke candidly about how their marriage has survived the pressures of fame and public attention.

According to her, trust has always been the foundation of their relationship.

I’ve been married to him for 30 years. I’ve never fought over a girl. I don’t have those kinds of problems, she said.

Omotola explained that her husband gives her the freedom to focus on her work while maintaining full trust in their relationship.

He doesn’t disturb me. If I have to do my work, I do my work and I come back. He trusts me totally. I trust him.

The actress also described her husband as a selfless person with no ego, qualities she believes are essential to their peaceful marriage.

Why Divorce Is Not an Option for Omotola

While discussing relationships, Omotola made it clear that divorce is not something she personally considers, though she respects people who make that decision.

She stressed that every marriage is different and what works for one couple may not work for another.

Divorce is not an option for me. It doesn’t mean it’s not an option for you. My marriage can never be the same as your marriage because no two people are the same.

According to her, relationships come with different challenges. Some couples may struggle with trust issues or betrayal, which can lead to different outcomes.

Still, she believes her own situation is unique because of how long she has known her husband.

I’ve been with this person since I was 16. I dated him for two years before we got married.

That deep history, she said, makes it difficult to imagine life completely apart.

She described her husband not just as a partner but almost like family.

I’ve known him all my life. He’s like my brother. Even if I decide to walk away tomorrow, which I think will never happen, I’ll still be in his life.

Omotola added humorously that any future partner her husband might have would still have to deal with her presence.

I’m still going to be in his life. Don’t come. There’s no point… we’ve gone too far.

    When Divorce May Be Necessary

Despite her strong views about staying married, Omotola acknowledged that some situations may justify divorce.

She said people facing threats to their safety, mental health, or peace of mind should not feel forced to remain in harmful relationships.

According to her, couples should attempt solutions such as therapy, family mediation, or temporary separation before making a final decision.

If you feel like your life has been threatened, your peace or mental state is affected and you’ve tried everything… and you decide you want to divorce, that’s okay too.

A Busy Season for the Nollywood Icon

Omotola’s reflections on marriage come at a time when she is also making headlines for her new film “Mothers Love,” currently showing in cinemas.
