    • The incident highlights growing concern over substance abuse among Nigerian youth.

A disturbing video making rounds on social media has drawn serious attention from the Nigerian public and police authorities. The clip captures a young woman’s unsettling behavior after she blew into a balloon at what appeared to be a casual house party.

The video, recorded in a room filled with youths, shows the woman initially appearing calm. She is handed a balloon by another lady and encouraged to blow it. Moments later, she exhibits erratic behavior, shouting, jumping, and seemingly losing control.

Reacting to the video, Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, took to his verified X (formerly Twitter) account to share his thoughts.

    He wrote:

“One of the reasons why I don’t want to hear anything about ‘Yahoo’ or Internet fraud is the way it motivates them to destroy themselves and young girls by abusing drugs. See how far they can go just to abuse drugs. We need to wake up.”

Edafe’s statement ties the incident to a wider societal issue, the growing culture of drug abuse allegedly fueled by proceeds from cybercrime, locally known as “Yahoo Yahoo.”

The video has reignited conversations about the dangerous trends among Nigerian youths, particularly the use of party drugs disguised in seemingly innocent forms such as balloons.

Although the substance in the balloon has not been officially identified, many speculate it could involve inhalants like nitrous oxide, commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” known to cause short-term euphoria and, in some cases, hallucinations.
