Ibadan WAEC Student Shot: Heartbroken Father Explains Why He Didn’t Stop for Police

A family’s ordinary school run turned into a nightmare in Ibadan, Nigeria, when a police shooting claimed the life of a promising WAEC student. Now, the boy’s father shares the heartbreaking reason he didn’t stop for traffic officers that morning.

    • The father, Mr. Odunayo Alade, says he didn’t stop because his son had a crucial WAEC exam at 8:30am.
    • Five children were in the car when police opened fire, tragically killing Kehinde Alade.
    • The family only realized Kehinde had been shot after his twin brother raised the alarm.

Ibadan, Nigeria. The city is reeling after a tragic police shooting left a WAEC candidate, Kehinde Alade, dead on his way to an important exam. His father, Mr. Odunayo Alade, is now speaking out, revealing the desperate decision he made that morning.

In an emotional interview, Mr. Alade explained,

“The elder brother of the deceased was having an 8:30 paper yesterday, and if I should stop, they would have delayed the boy; that’s why I had to manoeuvre my way.”

He said he didn’t realize the officers were trying to stop him until they struck his vehicle.

The family’s car was filled with five children, all hoping to make it to school on time. But after they drove past the officers, a gunshot rang out. Mr. Alade recalled,

“I just heard a gun shot, I didn’t stop. Then the boy in question was shouting Daddy, I even shouted at him that we had left the police already till his twin brother told me that he had been shot. I parked, brought him out and the place was soaked with blood.”

The pain in his voice was clear as he described the chaos and heartbreak that followed.

“I didn’t know they were still coming after me and immediately I saw them, I hijacked one of them,”

    He added.

Kehinde, the young victim, had dreams of becoming a lawyer.
