Real Reason Delta Governor Dumped PDP for APC Emerges
Delta State politics was rocked this week when Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, alongside top leaders, announced their exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Former Senator James Manager, a founding member of the PDP in Delta and its first chairman, has come forward to explain the surprising decision.
A Party in Crisis
Speaking after a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Asaba, Manager didn’t mince words.

“The PDP is facing serious internal problems. It’s like a sinking boat,” he stated.
Manager’s comments reflect growing unrest within the party’s ranks. According to him, months of discussions and consultations led to the conclusion that the PDP could no longer serve as a viable platform, especially ahead of future elections.
Failed Hope After Ibadan Meeting
A recent meeting in Ibadan served as a turning point. During the gathering, PDP governors unanimously rejected the idea of merging with other political parties. This, Manager says, extinguished any remaining hope for rejuvenation within the party.
“We realized we couldn’t continue hoping for a revival that wasn’t coming,” he explained.
With only about 11 or 12 PDP governors still in office nationwide, Manager questioned how the party could seriously contend against an incumbent president in 2027.
Leadership Turmoil Deepens the Divide
One of the more damning revelations involved the ongoing leadership crisis in the PDP. The confusion over who holds the office of National Secretary has become a symbol of the party’s larger dysfunction.
“It’s embarrassing. Different people are laying claim to the same position, and the party offers no clear direction,” Manager lamented.
For many Delta leaders, this was the final straw.
“We Made This Decision Together”
Manager emphasized that the defection was not a personal move, but a collective decision made after extensive consultations with stakeholders across Delta State.

“I’ve been with this party from the beginning. This was not an easy choice, but it was necessary,” he said.
The move is expected to reshape political alliances in Delta and could have wider implications as the 2027 general elections inch closer.
