After holding activist and influencer VeryDarkMan in custody since Friday, May 2nd, the EFCC has finally issued an official statement.
In a statement released at 11:12 am on Tuesday, May 6th, the Commission stated,
VDM was invited multiple times over serious financial crime allegations but allegedly refused to honor those invites.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) clarified that it lawfully obtained a remand order to detain Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, following a series of petitions alleging financial misconduct.
The Commission noted that he has since been granted administrative bail and will be released upon meeting the specified conditions.

“The appropriate Remand Order was obtained in this regard. He has been offered an administrative bail and would be released after fulfilling all the bail conditions.”
In response to public reactions and criticism surrounding the arrest, the EFCC acknowledged the overwhelming interest of Nigerians in its operations, urging the public to allow the Commission to
“do its job without fear or favour.”
It also confirmed that formal charges would be filed once investigations are concluded.
“As soon as investigations are concluded, charges will be filed.”
But here’s the big question:
💭 Isn’t it troubling that someone can be arrested and detained for days before solid evidence is made public?
💭 And why does it always take public pressure for official explanations to surface?
To those who celebrated his arrest, remember this: VDM has people backing him. If you were in his shoes today, would anyone post your name, demand your release, or even notice you’re gone?

Let’s not be quick to celebrate someone’s downfall without knowing the full story. The same system you cheer for today might come for you tomorrow.
