VeryDarkMan’s Dramatic Arrest: Lawyers, Eyewitnesses Raise Alarming Questions About EFCC Tactics

What really happened when online sensation VeryDarkMan was taken into custody? The internet is buzzing after details emerged about his dramatic arrest and the troubling way it all went down.

If you thought this was just another influencer drama, think again, this story is raising serious questions about justice and human rights in Nigeria.

    • VeryDarkMan, real name Martins Vincent Otse, was arrested on May 2, 2025, on cyberstalking charges.
    • Lawyers and eyewitnesses allege the arrest involved force, blindfolding, and a lack of transparency from EFCC officials.
    • The incident has reignited debates about due process and the rights of outspoken social media personalities in Nigeria.

The arrest of popular online personality VeryDarkMan, whose real name is Martins Vincent Otse, has sparked a wave of concern and debate across Nigeria’s social media landscape.

On May 2, 2025, officers from the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detained Otse on charges of cyberstalking, a familiar accusation for the outspoken activist.

But it’s not just the charges that have people talking. According to Otse’s legal team from Deji Adeyanju & Partners, the circumstances of the arrest were anything but ordinary.

Lawyers Marvin Omorogbe and Steven Eze said they were stonewalled by EFCC officers, who refused to explain the specific allegations against Otse’s associate, Steven Avuara, even as they confirmed both men were in custody.

Eyewitness accounts paint a tense and unsettling scene. Avuara, also known as C-PACK, described how he, Otse, and Mrs. Blessing Otse were at a Guaranty Trust Bank branch in Abuja, trying to resolve unexplained deductions from Mrs. Otse’s account.

As they left, they were trapped in the bank’s security door for several minutes. Once outside, they were confronted by armed men in black uniforms, who allegedly pointed guns at them, called them “bandits,” and threatened to shoot even in front of Mrs. Otse.

Avuara said the experience left Otse so shaken that he refused to speak to anyone, likely due to the trauma of the arrest. The legal team claims their clients were blindfolded and physically assaulted before being taken into custody.

When lawyers demanded to know the charges against Avuara, EFCC officials reportedly tried to start an interrogation without providing any details, prompting the lawyers to walk out in protest.

This isn’t the first time VeryDarkMan has found himself in legal trouble. Known for his bold social media activism and willingness to call out powerful figures, Otse has faced multiple arrests in the past.

His latest charges include cyberbullying and cyberstalking, allegedly targeting Nollywood stars Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh.

As the legal battle unfolds, Otse’s lawyers are urging the EFCC to respect their clients’ constitutional rights and follow due process. The case has reignited conversations about freedom of expression, the treatment of activists, and the importance of transparency in law enforcement.
